CJ Graces Prof. Gash Inauguration as Pepperdine President
LOS ANGELES: The Chief Justice on September 25, 2019 graced the inauguration of Prof. Jim Gash as President of Pepperdine University.
Located in Malibu, San Diego in Los Angeles, California, Pepperdine University and the Judiciary have a memorandum of understanding in furtherance of development.
In his address, Hon. Justice Katureebe credited President Gash and President Emeritus Andrew K. Benton for the vast improvements that the Uganda’s justice system has undergone since the University and the Judiciary launched their partnership many years ago.
The Chief Justice led a delegation from Uganda comprised the Principal Judge, Hon.Justice Dr Yorokamu Bamwine; Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Kahinda Otafiire; three Justices, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Hon.Justice Mike Chibita; the Solicitor General, Mr Francis Atoke; among other senior government officials to witness the inauguration ceremony.
In his inaugural address, President Gash explored the future of the University through the metaphor of the Pepperdine community climbing a mountain together.
"The world needs more Pepperdine. Our mandate [and] our unique gift to the world is our students. Our mandate is to train up and send out these students as brilliant leaders of faith, character, courage, and creativity."
Emphasizing that while Pepperdine has achieved notable global success over the last eight decades, President Gash urged the community to continue the climb in order to reach even greater heights.
Ms Jennifer J. Wiseman delivered the keynote lecture titled: "A Universe of Wonder, Challenge,and Possibility" which examined the cosmos through the dual lens of science and faith.
